Africa Powerpoint

1. Reactions to the power point
I really liked the power point. The photographer used the rule of simplicity a lot and I really liked that.

2. What was your favorite photo? Describe it and tell me why its your favorite
My favorite photo was of an elephant drinking water. the photographer took the picture right in front of the elephang so it looked cool because it showed the water and the background was simple.
3. Look up the photographer –
a.     What kind of camera did he use?
Pentax 67II
b.     What is his reason for taking the photos?
He feels that wildlife in africa is decreasing so he wants to capture all of the wildlife to have a reminder
c.     What is his hope by taking these types of photos?
That people will see his pictures and do something to change the poblem
d.     Find something he has to say about Africa and post the quote on your blog
"As for Africa, I went there in 1995 to direct one of the videos they did for Michael Jackson. And I absolutely fell in love with the place.  It was completely magic to me. I had to go back on holiday and that’s when I started taking my Pentax with me. I just realized there is a way of expressing my feelings without the need of somebody else’s money.  Initially, it cost a lot.  I had to direct stupid car commercials to pay for these expensive trips. I could never have taken these photos the normal way, like most wildlife photographers."

4. Find one of his photos that you really like and post it on your blog.

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?
It was hard to try and find pictures with framing

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
I thought a lot about shooting just the subject and not having all this craziness in the background. I would step farther and just play with the angles and the zoom.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?

4. What things would you do the same?
The focus, none of my pictures came blurry.

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?
Simplicity

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?
framing

7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?
I understand all of the rules.

Framing

How well did you follow the rule?
I think i followed it well. Everything is leading to the guy in the hallway.
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
The guy in the red shirt walking towards me.Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
I  like to think so. The lockers, the walls, and the ceiling are all framing that guy.

Balance

How well did you follow the rule?
I think i followed the rule nicely, Theres something in the bottom corner and theres something in the top.
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
The subject is the girl in the front reading her book and the rest of the three kids in the back.
Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
Not really because there is so much going on.

Lines

How well did you follow the rule?
I think i followed the rule ok-ish, the guard is stading around all the lines.
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
My subject is the guard standing at the railing
Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
Yeah he is the center of the picture.

Avoiding Mergers

How well did you follow the rule?
Well I think, the computer is on the girls face.
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
The blonde girl behind the computer
Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
I like to think so.

Simplicity

How well did you follow the rule?
Good I think, the girl is behind a simple background making her the focus point of the picture.
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
The girl smiling at the camera.
Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
Yeah, everything else is so simple that she stands out.

Rule Of Thirds

How well did you follow the rule?
I think i followed the rule well, the girl is in the top corner
What is the subject (be very very specific)?
the girl in the pony-tail, looking at the mirror
Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
yeah shes the focus point

Academics Shoot Preview

The Story!

This picture looks like there was a story behind it. They are all holding hands while standing around a pole with all of their heads down, I think the story is that they are having a memorial for something or someone.

Action & Emotion!

This picture shows a lot of emotion. Two girls are in a table doing a science experiment, there is something sparkly in the air & they have a surprised/happy expression. Something exploded and now they have all this sparkly stuff in the air, they are obviously very excited and you can see it in their face.

Filling The Frame!

This picture fills the frame nicely because you have so much stuff going on, The kids are all gathered at a table with their hands touching this cluod/ smoke looking thing

Post Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 3 prompts (Red, Metal, Grumpy?
I couldn't find anything grumpy, because its more of a feeling than an object like the other two

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
I was trying to get the camera focus, i would hold it then take two pictures of the same thing then keep the best one.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photograhy?
I would try to get simpler backgrounds so the focus would pop out even more.

4. What things would you do the same?
To keep trying the best focus possible.

5. Finally - go back and edit your blogs with the 3 photos (red, metal, grumpy), tell me what rules of composition (which you just learned about) did you end up actually achieving? Did you have any?
ok:)

6. Are you interested in shooting those prompts again, why?
no i want to shoot more interesting prompts.

Red, Metal, Grumpy

5. Finally - go back and edit your blogs with the 3 photos (red, metal, grumpy), tell me what rules of composition (which you just learned about) did you end up actually achieving? Did you have any?
I really didnt have any, but from now on ill try to remember the 6 rules.
RED METAL GRUMPY

Avoiding Mergers

This picture is a good example of avoiding mergers because the tree loos like its coming out of the mans behind, you cant fully see the lady because the man is standing in front of her

Framing

This picture is a good example of framing because the buildings leads your eyes toward the tower. the first thing you see is the towers burning.

Balance

This picture is a good example of balance because in one corner you have the lady with a worried expression in her face and in the other corner you have all of the smoke.

Lines

This picture is a good example of lines because the vertical lines are exactly the same so it leads your eyes to the man falling because the lines make him stand out.

The Rule of Thirds

This is a good example for the rule of  thirds because the flag is the focus point, in those imaginary lines the flag is right on one of those.

Simplicity

This picture is a good example of simplicity because the simple background draws the eyes to the building, there isn't any other distractions the tower is the focus point.

Bastrop Fire 2011

When I look at this picture I'm in awe. I cant help but imagine, what if this was me. Seeing the whole house on fire is really scary. This picture made the most impact because it looks unreal.
